Description
21" (53 cm.) Cast bronze portraying a young chemise-clad child with tousled curly hair standing upon a shaped plinth, one hand held to her face as though in bewilderment, the other arm clasping a doll which lies in her arms, its limbs dangling as though loosely strung. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Gapaix (incised on base). Comments: French, circa 1880, the sculpting of the child closely resembles the facial model of early Jumeau or Schmitt bebes, while the doll she holds is a loose-limbed tauffling baby type. Value Points: exceptional quality of sculpting, fine exhibition size, with significance to collectors of early bebes.
