Description
12" (30 cm.) h. and l. Standing upon a wooden platform with decorative paper covers are two bisque head dolls, each with painted facial features and highly characterized delighted laughing expression, bright blue eyes, closed mouth with sculpted teeth, mohair wig, wooden block torso and lower limbs, wire upper limbs, and each wearing a well-detailed party costume, she in rose silk and tulle party dress, and he in orange silk clown costume with matching hat. The boy holds a metal leash to his glass-eyed spotted dog, and each holds a brass bell. When wound, the head, right torso and arm of each swing back and forth, as though ringing the bell, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 16 A (dolls). Comments: attributed to Zinner and Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: rare character face models on the well-preserved and entertaining toy which functions well.
