11" (28 cm.) doll. 16" x 16" box. A bisque head doll with grey glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with outlined and shaded lips, pierced ears, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully jointed body with straight wrists, wearing pretty silk costume is arranged in an elaboraely fitted box with four additional costumes and with various accessories, the lid of box with decoupage name "Gabrielle". Condition: generally excellent. Marks: W.D. 1. Comments: William Dehler of Sonneberg, circa 1885, with later-fitted presentation box and antique style costumes; the doll was inspired by French bebes of the same era, whose market it attempted to capture. Value Points: rare doll with wonderful expression, in beautiful presentation.
