19" (48 cm.) x 23". The drawing depicts the family seated in a fenced and flowered garden, the chateau in the background. The family depicts the moustached father, mother with topknot coiffure, and three children. Arranged along with the family, is the family dog, a hobby horse, and seven other various toys and dolls. The penciled note on the back indicates that portrait depicts the Gosselin family at their Chateau near Saint-Germain-en-Laye, outside of Paris, circa 1818. The painting is signed "Montout '18". Excellent condition. With frame, under glass, a wonderful depiction of a prosperous French bourgeoisie.
