16" (41 cm.) Solid domed wax over paper mache shoulder head with oval face and full throat, small black enamel glass eyes, black eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, brunette original human hair wig in very elaborate braided coiffure, firmly-stuffed hand-stitched muslin body, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: very good/excellent, original finish, sparseness of hair. Comments: mid-1800s, French or German origin uncertain. Value Points: original superbly-detailed coiffure, rare and near perfect original Swiss folklore costume with elaborate detail, very sturdy rare body. The doll was featured in several articles by Estelle Johnston, including "Unusual Dolls" in 1991 Doll News.
