Description
2" (5 cm.) The snail-shaped oval chamber pot with scrolled handle has cream background with rose floral garland and gilt rim and accents. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1800s, the especially-shaped chamber pot was named for the Jesuit priest Pere Louis Bourdaloue, a priest in the court of Louis XIV. According to legend, his sermons were so long that ladies' maids attended them with this especially-shaped pot at the ready, in order that the ladies would not need to leave and miss the priestly wisdom. Value Points: extremely rare, even in thimble sized poupee accessories, this miniature poupee-sized accessory is extraordinary.
