Description
15" (38 cm.) h. 5" x 7" base. Standing upon a wooden platform is a bisque head doll with blue glass eyes, open mouth, tiny teeth, blonde mohair wig, wooden torso and lower limbs, wire upper arms and legs, and wearing original rose silk jester costume with lace trim, matching hat, holding training rod in one hand and large bell in the other. Posed on a wooden barrel in front of the clown is a plush-covered paper mache poodle, and when wound, the jester waves arms up and down, as though urging the poodle on, and rings the bell, while the barrel (and hence poodle) twirls around, and music plays. Condition: generally excellent, poodle plush a bit dusty. Comments: Germany, Zinner & Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: especially charming scene and movements, strong delightful music.
