Description
11" (28 cm.) Each has polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead, enamel eyes, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, and is wearing original villager costume. The woman has brown sculpted hair casually curled around her face, with added feathering details of paint, and curls tumbling onto her nape, painted black stockings and shoes. The man has black unruly curled hair with forelock details, sculpted ears, and curly black beard and moustache, black stockings and green painted shoes. They are seated on a park bench on wooden platform, with basket of flowers and brass-potted tulip in her lap. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, the posable armature bodies allowed the dolls to be arranged in a seated pose which can easily be re-arranged to stand.
