Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered wooden base is a bisque-head girl with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, dark painted lashes and brows, rose blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, closed mouth with gleaming lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French carton torso and upper legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, silk costume and woven bonnet. The girl is holding a woven wicker basket tray which is laden with strawberries and flowers and which features a domed top basket at its center, and when wound, music plays, she turns her head side to side, and alternately offers strawberries with her right hand, and then lifts the lid of the domed basket with her left hand, to reveal the surprise beneath: a red feathered bird which twirls around and around when uncovered. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (head) L.B. (key) Les Dragons de Villard 39 (hand lettered tune title on underbase). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: charming movements and music with delightful surprise, especially lovely bisque on doll.
