14" (36 cm.) Bisque socket head with high domed forehead and small brown glass inset eyes, brown fringed upper lashes, tinted brows, accented nostrils of tiny nose, closed mouth with wistful expression, auburn-brown mohair wig, five-piece French composition jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: SFBJ 239 Paris Poulbot (Poulbot in incised script). Comments: SFBJ, circa 1915, the model was designed by the illustrious French artist, Francisque Poulbot, based upon his poster and book drawings depicting WWI post-war Parisian orphans, and made by SFBJ for two years only; the doll was named Nenette by Poulbot. Value Points: rare character, the doll was aimed to raise awareness of the ravages of WWI, and is wearing original factory costume of young street orphan.
