Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 0. Comments: French,attributed to Gaultier,circa 1880,the poupee wears the traditional nourrice (nanny) costume of Normandy girls who came to Paris during the 19th century to serve as nannies to young babies of the wealthy class; this nanny "uniform" is a precise representation of the classic Normandy folklore costume. Value Points: pristine unplayed with condition,the nanny wearing blue cashmere wool gown and cape with black velvet and lace trim,elaborate silk coiffe,earrings,undergarments,leather shoes marked "1",and carries a lavishly-costumed bisque doll with blue glass eyes and smiling expression.
