8" (20 cm.) Each is an earthenware figure of adult man with sculpted and painted details of complexion, beards, moustaches, goatees, and expressions to represent their roles in society, and each is wearing its original costume that further expresses this role. Each is mounted on its original wooden base with ink-labeled paper on the underside denoting the occupation that is depicted (such as messenger, native teacher, Brahmin, etc). Generally excellent, slight minor wear on few hands. Indian, late 1800s.
