13" (33 cm.) Carved bone hollow socket head with elongated throat designed to attach to original cloth costume, having sculpted black hair with well-defined coiffure, painted facial features, narrow eyes, painted brows, closed mouth with enigmatic smile, costume comprising an embroidered silk costume over linen and cotton form with attached hands and feet; the costume was designed for the doll to be used as a hand puppet. Condition: head and silk costume excellent, under-form, hands and feet are very worn. Comments: Chinese, mid-1800s. Value Points: very fine quality of sculpting and painting, well detailed costume.
