Description
18" (46 cm.) A bisque head lady with blue glass paperweight eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with outlined lips, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and legs, hinged right hip, wearing a luxurious rose satin and black velvet costume, is seated on the edge of a velvet-covered base, her shapely legs crossed at the knees, and her bisque arms posed with a black velvet party mask held in one hand and a tambourine in the other. Condition: generally excellent, two fingers chipped. Marks: L.B. (key). Depose Jumeau 3 (doll) (paper label listing two tunes on the underside). Comments: Lambert, circa 1890. When wound, and lever released, the doll turns her head side to side while alternately lifting and shaking the tambourine and lifting the mask to her face when head is turned in that direction; meanwhile her leg taps. Value Points: charming automaton accentuated by beautiful bisque face, rare to find with two tunes, mechanism and music function well.
