Description

5.5" (14 cm.) The painted tin toy features two women seated inside a blue hansom cab while a little dog sits on back paws on the platform at their feet. A driver in red-painted jacket and top hat is seated outside, his hands on the steering wheel. When coil-spring wound, several actions occur: the reckless driver propels the cab erratically, the dog dances about nervously, while the two women implore the driver to stop, one tapping the roof of the cab with her umbrella while the other waves her arms about. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well, few paint flakes. Marked Lehmann. Comments: Lehmann EPL model 520,circa 1905, the toy was named in honor of Lehmann's two sisters, Lieselotte and Laura, and may have been inspired by a visit to London where hansom cabs were prevalent.
