8" (20 cm.) A paper-covered wooden box that disguises a sand-filled interior mechanism portrays a hand-painted seaside scene in its glass-front stage, with a cut-out and hand-painted figure of a red-shirted sailor standing in the foreground. When activated the sailor dancers merrily around. Very good condition, sand is sometimes sluggish. French, circa 1850, a rare early toy with well-rendered artful work and amusing activity.
