13" (33 cm.) Each is one-piece carved wooden head, torso and legs depicting man and woman (the woman with modeled bosom), posed with uptilted head, and having carved hair with deeply-incised combmarks and curls at forehead, half-moon-shaped brown enamel inset eyes, rose blushed eyeshadow, painted lower lashes, closed mouth, peg-jointed arms and legs, painted stockings and shoes. Condition: some restoration of painting especially of arms, man's left foot tip broken off. Comments: Continental, circa 1820. Value Points: rare dolls, especially as a pair, with most expressive features and deeply carved hair.
