12" (30 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of village man, sculpted brown hair peeking beneath the sculpted wide-brimmed black hat, strong nose and jaw bones, deeply-set eye sockets, nearly closed mouth with row of teeth, beard stubble, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, brown slipper shoes, wearing original costume comprising silk shirt, jacket and pants with gold thread trim, and carrying earthenware stein. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, notable characterization of face and rare sculpted hat.
