21" (53 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of woman with rounded chin, strong throat and amply-modeled bosom, deeply-defined sculpted brown hair waved from face and captured in an intricate braided and looped chignon centered by a painted red comb, deeply-set eye sockets, enamel eyes, closed mouth modeled as though open with painted teeth and tongue tip, fully-sculpted ears, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted red stockings and black work shoes, wearing especially fine blouse, folklore costume and with upheld apron containing a basket of oranges. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, unique and outstanding sculpting indicates specific artist, yet unidentified.
