Bisque shoulder head with light brown sculpted hair arranged in large coiled braid and decorated with a gilded-edge black hair comb, stippling details of curls around the forehead, and modeled stand-up and ruffled collars centered by sculpted pink bow, and framed by intricately painted blue, white, blue and gilded bodice, with fully sculpted pierced ears, cobalt blue glass eyes, closed mouth, painted facial features, muslin stitch-jointed body, bisque hands. Condition: hairlines and/or original firing lines on right shoulder at the seam and back shoulder plate. Marks: 5 A S. Comments: Germany, circa 1875, the extraordinary doll has been featured in several books including a color plate in Estrid Faurholt's Book of Dolls and Dollhouse wherein she was described simply as "Fine Lady" , in Richter's China, Parian and Bisque German Dolls, and in Cieslik's German Doll Encyclopedia. Few other examples of the exceptional doll are known to exist.
