8" (20 cm.) All-wooden black-complexioned character with two-part swivel head, attached tuft of hair to modeled black tightly-curled painted hair, painted facial features, brown eyes, accented nostrils, closed mouth with unusual beaming smile, jointing at shoulders and hips, wearing original twill short pants with wide sash printed with card symbols, and carrying spear. Excellent condition. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1909, rare variation of African native with tufted hair style, original painting with rare smiling expression. Included is all-wooden zebra with closed mouth, glass eyes, double-jointed neck, cloth mane, leather ears, and rope tail with painted spots, with original finish, Schoenhut, circa 1909.
