Description
11" (28 cm.) Each of the four dolls has polychromed terra cotta head with bald pate or sculpted hair, enamel eyes, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted stockings and shoes, silk costume, and each is holding his musical instrument including stand-up bass and violin of carved wood and two tortoise-shell mandolins. Excellent condition, costumes are not original. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, the quartet is notable as each character has a different face and hair style, lending the arrangement a very realistic presentation.
