Early German Wooden Mechanical Toy with Four Activities

9" (23 cm.) x 9" base. Arranged upon a wooden base designed to appear as a stone-walled foundation are four carved wooden workers, each with sculpted hair and with painted costume with cloth work apron. When wound, a series of movements ensues: one man pull a chain which activates a large bellows; a second man turns a large water wheel which turns the grindstone that a third man leans over while sharpening a knife, and the fourth man hammers the large anvil. Excellent condition, movements function well. Germany, early 1800s.
