Description
13" (33 cm.) Solid domed porcelain shoulderhead, painted dark blue eyes, black and red upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, accented nostrils, pertly shaped closed lips, taufling body with cloth midriff and upper arms and legs, porcelain hips and lower arms and legs, cupped fingers, bare feet, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent, underside of two fingertips flaked, cloth portions of body may be recovered. Comments: Germany, circa 1860, the taufling baby inspired by the Japanese Ichimatsu doll introduced to the West during the mid-1800s International Expositions. Value Points: rare doll with wonderful body, especially modeling of legs and hips, great expression.
