17" (43 cm.) x 12" box. A firm-sided lightwood box with decorative paper covers in the Art Nouveau style and gilt lettering "Modes des Nouveautes" hinges open to reveal original presentation designed to instruct a young child in the millinery arts,including ten miniature straw hats of various colors,a bounty of colored straws,ribbons,tulle,flowers,threads,and various sewing tools. The set is all original and the contents have never been removed. A rare and beautiful set. French,circa 1890.
