14" (36 cm.) Bisque socket head with gaunt features, brown glass inset eyes, tinted brows, fringe sockets, ochre eyeshadow, closed mouth with wide center accent line, brunette mohair wig, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, vintage costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: SFBJ 239 Paris (incised) Poulbot (incised signature). Comments: French, SFBJ, circa 1915, the doll was designed by the celebrated French illustrator, Francisque Poulbot, as inspired by his own poster art of the French orphans of Montmartre during WWI. The doll appeared on the cover of Theriault's November 1980 auction catalog from which it was acquired by Lillian Hamm. Value Points: very fine quality of bisque with distinctive sculpting and painting.
