12" (30 cm.) A bisque-head doll with cobalt blue eyes,painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with center accent line,pierced ears,firm paper mache block torso and legs,wire upper arms,bisque forearms,is posed standing upon a wooden barrel,holding a gilt metal violin. When wound,music plays and his right arm moves back and forth,as he strums the violin. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French,circa 1885. Value Points: finest quality of bisque with dainty painting,wearing original silk costume with soutache-trimmed vest,striped silk stockings,silk top hat,in delightfully-preserved condition,mechanism and music function well.
