Description
16" (41 cm.) All-carved wooden doll, socket head, small intaglio painted brown eyes, white eye dots, heavily-modeled eyelids, closed mouth with primly-shaped lips, very full cheeks, brunette tacked-on mohair bobbed wig, spring-jointed wooden body with holes in feet for posing, antique costume comprising cotton dress with braid trim (possibly original), undergarments, stockings, (one) Schoenhut shoe. Condition: generally excellent, few light touch-ups on face, original wig. Marks: Schoenhut Doll Pat. January 17. '11 USA & Foreign Countries. Comments: Schoenhut, model 16/302, the first wigged head model to be shown in earliest advertising, 1911/1912. Value Points: especially fine carving of eyes and cheeks, original wig, compelling expression.
