Description
Two paper mache animated monkey figures costumed in original silk Marquis style costumes, are seated atop a rosewood cabinet, behind ebonized wooden music stands. The monkeys have brown glass eyes, moveable upper and lower lips, and highly characterized features. One holds a small wooden violin, the other a large cello. The cabinet is decorated with a lovely marquetry scene of a dancing child encircled by elaborate scroll designs. The reed-playing internal organ is 20-key. The original paper tune label with ink-script tune names appears on top of the key frame.
Movements: The monkeys play the cello and violin in an animated fashion with movement of heads, lips, arms.
