19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden platform is a bisque-head girl with highly-characterized crying expression,narrow blue glass eyes,painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth modeled in wide crying expression,sculpted upper teeth and tongue,applied tears under each eye,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French carton torso and legs,bisque forearms,original silk and lace costume with matching bonnet. The crying child is holding a bisque-head Polichinelle in her right hand,with his body in her left hand,dangling as though he is broken. When wound,music plays,she lifts the Polichinelle as though to show the tragedy that has befallen her favorite toy,then drops it again,and turns to her left hand,lifting his body,while her head turns side to side and nods. Condition: generally excellent,mechanism and music function well. Marks: 211 (head) L.B. (key). (and original paper tune label with ink-script name of music). Comments: Leopold Lambert,with bisque head especially commissioned for the automaton from Jumeau,circa 1890. Value Points: rare automaton with most endearing and realistic scene,very rare bisque character head from the Jumeau art series,beautiful bisque,original tears.
