10" (25 cm.) kneeling. Each has carved wooden socket head, gofun complexion, enamel eyes, painted facial features including nobility spots on forehead, inset black silk hair with painted feathering around the outer forehead, armature body, wooden hands. Each doll is posed kneeling, wearing elaborate multi-layered formal costume with accessories. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Japanese, Meiji era. Value Points: the pair of important ceremonial dolls are each arranged on wooden base which is arranged (removable) in its original wooden box. Each box has original paper label on inside wall, and original artist label on the exterior.
