Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque head with portrait like features, blue glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, is attached to a full body armor of finely cast metal with chain link hip cover, arm shields, and with sword and shield. The face plate is hinged and can be moved up to reveal the doll, or closed. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, the doll represents Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc), early 1860s, possibly 1863 which was the 60th anniversary of Jeanne d'Arc being declared the national symbol of France by Napoleon. Value Points: very rare doll with superb portrait like face found only on very rare poupees, and with original costume, mounted on original stand.
