Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-head doll with blue glass paperweight eyes,dark eyeliner,lushly-painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,bisque shoulder plate,carton torso and legs,bisque forearms. The girl holds a painted wooden tea service and when wound,she nods,and lifts the teapot in her right hand,extends the tea tray in her left hand,and appears to serve tea,while music plays. Condition: generally excellent,original costume with some fraility on sleeves and apron,music and mechanism function well. Marks: (artist check marks on head) L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert with bisque head by Jumeau,circa 1892,the popularity of the Russian-themed automaton was occasioned by the Russian Tsar Alexander's visit to Paris in 1892. Value Points: well-preserved luxury automaton with elaborate silk costume,"jeweled" head-dress and necklace,elongated blonde wig.
