Description
4" (10 cm.) Each has one piece bisque head and torso,oversized head with pronounced bald pate and very chubby blushed cheeks,painted "O- shaped blue eyes with white eyedots,red button nose,down-cast lips,painted white baby smock,jointed arms,hinged bisque legs with sculpted pink or blue slippers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1920,made in Germany. Designed by the American illustrator,Charles Twelvetrees,to depict his signature wide-eyed children named Hebee and Shebee,and made popular on magazine covers,parlor art,postcards and valentines of the era. Value Points: rare little imps with very imaginative characterization,are rarely found as a pair.
