Description

25" (64 cm). Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eyecut, painted lashes, incised eyeliner, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with richly shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, auburn mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with kid-over-metal-hinged hips, clockwork mechanism in torso which is activated by key inset in left side; when wound the doll moves its legs forward and backward in walking motion. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism funtions well. Marks: Bru JneR 11. Comments: the first model of Bru's walking bebe deposed as Bebe Petit Pas in 1891 (Then obliged to change its name to Bebe Marcheur or Bebe Premier Elan since Steiner had already deposed the name Bebe Petit Pas in 1890 (See #92). Value Points: in pristine unplayed with condition, the doll is presented in her original luxe quality box with Bru Bebe Marcheur label and doll's maroon silk satin dress and black leather shoes signed with symbol of hot air balloon.
