Description
26" (66 cm.) x 20". Arranged within its original shadowbox is an urn filled with various wildflowers in an exuberant arrangement; the urn and flowers are actually shaped from arranged hair, an artwork that was developed in the mid-1800s both in a simple artisan manner and in highly skilled workmanship such as this example. The arrangements were generally small, often appearing, for example, as jewelry, and rarely, as this example, in superb parlor decorations. Excellent condition. Mid-1800s.
