A royal blue velvet evening gown of exquisitely soft and lustrous finish is seemingly simple, yet intricately constructed. The bodice with low-rounded neckline and short capelet sleeves are edged with dentellated braid highlighted with tiny black beads. The bodice is snugly fitted with blue taffeta lining, hidden set-in waistband and three hook and eye closures at the back. The skirt has wide double box pleats that give fullness to the skirt and opulence to the hips. There are five appliques of black embroidery and beads at the hemline, and a detachable double lapet with braid and beaded decorations attached to the back waist. Along with a black and blue glass beaded evening cap. Circa 1860. Unsigned, but indubitably of quality and style of costumes presented by Huret. Appropriately sized for 16-17" poupee.
