10" (25 cm.) Bisque socket head,brown glass enamel inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes and lightly-feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body) A. Krohn Paris (two cloth labels inside dress). Comments: Emile Jumeau,circa 1878,his premiere bebe model wearing original dress with label of Alexander Krohn,maker of doll costumes at 25 Rue d'Angouleme,Paris,who advertised "the very latest fashions made with care to minute details". The doll was originally owned by the young girl Thomasina Maxwell who never played with the doll because "she had cone-shaped leather on her head"; the doll was relegated to the attic where she lived a quiet life that has left her perfectly-preserved. Included with the doll is an image of Thomasina Maxwell Allum from her later years. Value Points: pristine original condition of the size 1 early period bebe,original body and body stringing,original muslin chemise,turquoise earrings and beads,and original aqua silk dress with two labels "A Krohn Paris",and matching aqua kidskin shoes with silk rosettes marked "* Paris". The doll is presented in a woven basket with aqua silk velvet quilted lining.
