Description

Of a splendid crisp silk fabric in light brown color with tiny interwoven checkered pattern of muted purple, the costume features a box-pleated skirt with reverse pleats at front panel and double box pleats at the back and a hidden set-in waist covered by a pleated purple sash from which two long streamers cascade at each side. There are two pleated purple silk ribbon suspenders and the same purple silk ribbon edges the skirt hemline. A very narrow black velvet ribbon edged with cream stitching centers the purple sash and suspenders, and three bands of the ribbon extend around the skirt just above the hemline. The costume is fully lined and is unquestionably couturier made, although unsigned. Included is a white fine muslin blouse with lace collar and cuffs. Appropriately sized for 16-17" Huret style poupee. Circa 1860.
