19" (48 cm.) All-cloth doll with stiffened oil-painted complexion, painted brown hair in short curly fashion, painted large brown eyes with curly upper lashes, fringed brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, muslin stitch-jointed body with oil-painted hands and painted blue shoes, antique costume. Condition: very good, original body finish with few scuffs, body darkened. Comments: Ella Smith, her Alabama Baby, circa 1910. Value Points: well-modeled features, original finish, especially fine details of shaded hair color, the doll holds a wooden toy soldier pull-toy stamped "c. Lewis Nichols". Circa 1980s by the American cottage industry wooden toy maker.
