Description

14" (35 cm). Of creamy thick paste porcelain with hand-pressed details and delicate complexion blush, the shoulder-head doll portrays a slender-faced woman with elongated strong throat, defined throat hollow and modeled bosom. Her chocolate brown hair is arranged with a center-part with four finger curls at either side of face formed by combining the back of head hair into a smooth forward-combed cap. She has blue eyes with sculpted eyelids, red eyeliner, brown brows, aquiline nose with upturned tip, and closed mouth with accent line between the lips. The doll has a muslin stitch-jointed body with leather arms and sewn-on striped stockings and leather shoes, and wears a muslin blouse with embroidery detail, brown cotton sateen skirt and undergarments. The doll is marked with several symbols and letters, including K.P.M. inside the shoulder plate (see detail photograph). Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur, circa 1840. From the collection of Mildred Seeley.
