The front-opening coat style dress with fitted bodice and widely flared skirt enhanced by insert panels at the back has lapel collars, wide coat sleeves with turned up cuffs, faux berry silk twill banding around all outer edges, along the back seams, and at faux pockets. There are three silk covered purple buttons and hand-stitched button holes. Along with a straw bonnet with wide brim, the brim and banding of rich purple berry velvet, and decorated with a roulard of velvet ribbons and white feathers. Two purple velvet rosettes suspend from the tie strings. The bonnet is lined and signed with the stamp of "Herbillon, Au Calife de Bagdad, 15 Rue du Choiseul". The luxury doll shop, Au Calife de Bagdad, was operated in Paris from 1852-1866 under the direction of Madame Herbillon. The shop featured the finest of doll costumes, trousseaux and accessories from couturiers and small studios throughout Paris. Also included is a small straw basket with purple straw border.
