Carved ivory of gaunt-faced man with painted brown hair, sculpted beard and mustache, sculpted ears and facial features, enamel inset eyes, one-piece wooden torso and shoulder and elbows. CONDITION: good, left arm replaced, ivory split at left side of face. COMMENTS: Continental, early 19th century. VALUE POINTS: superb detail of carving on the rare early doll, frail original silk costume with silver embroidery.
