Description

Of crisp taffeta in a pale bronze green color the unusually constructed party gown closes at the front from a single top button and waist tie. The bodice features wide lapels edged with pleated aqua silk and black lace that continues the full length of the gown. The pagoda-shaped 3/4 sleeves are edged with the same trim. The waist is constructed with tiny cartridge pleats forming a full skirt. An aqua silk sewn-on sash forms a tie-bow at the front and cascades to the skirt hem. Included is a matching evening cape with extended collar at the back. The gown bodice and cape are lined with silk; the skirt is lined with muslin. Also included is a black party mask with elaborate black lace trim. Although unsigned the meticulous and refined details indicate couturier design and construction. Appropriately sized for 16-17" Huret style poupee. Circa 1860.
