Superb construction techniques and fine fabric indicate the couturier background of this fine gown, made of shaded grey silk shantung with fitted flat front, rounded collar, two V-shaped pockets, very wide pagoda style sleeves with turned up cuffs, dart-fitted back bodice that flares open at the waist into double inverted back pleats that reach to the bottom of the slightly extended back skirt. The gown is richly trimmed in blue soutache of graduated size, with blue silk ribbon edging and blue silk bows at the front closure. The dress is completely lined with lavender silk at the bodice and muslin at the skirt. There is a hidden set-in waist band and eight hook and thread loop closures. Along with a bone-handled blue silk parasol with bone belt loop, some frailty to silk. And with a royal blue snood of woven silk threads with braided silk border and blue bow trim. Circa 1860. An outstanding ensemble appropriately sized for 14-15" poupee.
