Rare Early Italian Felt Character Pierrot by Lenci

23" (58 cm.) Felt swivel head with pressed and painted facial features, heart-shaped face, heavy eyelids on sculpted downcast and glazed dark brown eyes, black and brown upper eyeliner, tinted brows, black beauty marks, aquiline nose, closed mouth, very lean and elongated torso and limbs, jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Lenci, early 1920s, the model representing the classic theatrical figure of Pierrot, appeared in the earliest Lenci catalogs in several color variations of costume. Value Points: rare color variation of purple and magenta, the costume features double-tiered ruffled collar, felt tunic and pants, black stockings, black skullcap with surmounting climbing vine, and wooden mandolin.
