27" (69 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with plump rounded face, black sculpted hair with centerpart, sculpted curls framing the face and arranged short curls overall, painted turquoise eyes, painted upper lashes, single-stroke brows, closed mouth, muslin plump body with stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Greiner's Patent Heads No. 8 Pat. March 30, '58 (original paper label). Comments: Ludwig Greiner, Philadelphia, circa 1858. Value Points: the early American doll has earliest period label of 1858, fine gleaming original painted finish, antique costume.
