14" (36 cm.) Dark brown cotton sateen doll with flat-dimensional face having varnished finish with oil-painted features,large outlined amber-brown eyes in half moon shape with white eye dots and very thick black eyeliner,thick black brows,defined nose,painted lips with coral-shaded lower lip,black wiry hair,stitch jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips,and knees,mitten- shaped hands,coral sewn-on stockings,painted brown shoes,original antique costume including turban,and gold bangle earrings. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: New Orleans Rag Doll by Maud Witherspoon,circa 1900,a note pinned inside the back skirt hem reads,"Maudy from New Orleans 80 yrs old". Value Points: very fine original condition and artistic painting of the rare doll.
