22" (56 cm.) Firmly stuffed cloth doll with sewn-on flat- dimensional face having oil-painted facial features and brown painted hair,outlined blue eyes with white eye dots,shaded brows,closed mouth with accent line between the lips,jointed short arms with black stockinette cover,wearing red cotton dress over striped red knit leggings,and with red cotton and lace sunbonnet. Condition: very good,some paint rubs on face. Comments: American,late 19th century,the "make-do" doll has appealingly blended scraps of other dolls into this well-loved unique plaything. Value Points: the beloved doll of a poor young child wonderfully conveys the charm of folk art use of found materials.
