Description
16" (41 cm.) All-cloth doll with stitched-on face and hair over
muslin head form,with side seams that allow ear shaping,and having
three short seams at forehead,and one at chin,flat-dimensional
face,painted brown hair in short boyish fashion,blue eyes with
shaded,outlined and white eye dots,feathered brows,outlined
nose,painted lips with center line,blushed cheeks,muslin body with
stitch jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,wearing old
blue serge costume,shirt,undergarments,leather slippers,and with
vintage photographic pin back and musical instruments pins.
Condition: very good,original oil-painted finish with aging.
Comments: American,mid/late 19th century,unknown folk artist,in
the manner of itinerant American folk portrait painters such as
William Matthew Prior. Value Points: most captivating expression
achieved by artistic painting,and having well-conceived
construction technique,on the rare doll.
